Thursday Thirteen - My Favorite Cities- 2/21/07

The 13 best cities I have ever visited. These are all cities, no towns, burgs, or hamlets here. These are the first that came to mind. I am sure there are many others that deserve to be on my list if I gave it some thought. These are in no particular order. I liked them all for different reasons: history and culture, people, nightlife, simple beauty, atmosphere, and personal memories/events.

1) New York City, NY

2) Athens, Greece

3) Heidelberg, Germany

4) Taipei, Taiwan

5) Washington, DC

6) Dublin, Ireland

7) San Francisco, CA

8) Vancouver BC

9) Venice, Italy

10) London, England

11) Bangkok, Thailand

12) Miami, FL

13) Madrid, Spain

Those are places to visit. But I live in the best of all places. Myrtle Beach, SC. It has everything I need. I would love to hear which cities are your favorites.

  1. There is no doubt; San Francisco is my favorite city, next to Pittsburgh. I just adore it there. *happy sigh*

  3. Hey cool, I've been to 1,2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

NYC and Bangkok definitely top my list, but SF, Vancouver, London and Paris aren't far behind. And of course Tel Aviv. Love Tel Aviv.

  4. PS The Thursday Thirteen website seems to be down today, or at least I haven't been able to get into it all day. If you have, I wouldn't be at all surprised that it's been wonky. It's usually pretty straightforward.

  7. I like Cairo, Egypt for the heat, and the warmth of the people and Seoul, Korea for the summer shopping and kindness the Koreans showed us.

  9. Susan: I have heard good things about Pittsburgh but have not experienced them myself.
Little Wing: You need to get on that Harley and explore.
Robin: Never been to Tel Aviv. I would have included Paris but it is full of French People. Kind of ruins it for me.
Brenda: Seoul and Tokyo would have made my list if it was 20 instead of 13. Never been to Cairo.

  10. I haven't really been to that many cities, so I'm going on my own fondness for my former home of Toronto, Ontario. I LOVE Toronto!

Really enjoyed the pics and all your cities listed here. Heidelberg looks so beautiful.

  11. Amsterdam would have definitely been on my list had it not been for the totally quiet trains that nearly ran me over a dozen times. Any one who has been there knows what I am talking about. The train tracks and streets and walkways are all one in the same. Here is an example of what I mean. http://tevanalexander.com/sevenmonths/photos/trainstreet.jpg

  13. I love your list. I have been to SF (I live an hour away), NYC, and Vancouver. I think Taipei looks awesome with the mountains and the clouds covering them.

Well, actually they all look pretty awesome@

  14. Okay, I feel a little jipped. I've only been to 4 of your 13 and I can only really remember 1 or 2.

  15. I've only been to 3 of them: Washington, Venice, and Heidelberg. In fact, this summer, we're moving back to Heidelberg.

I'd love to visit the rest of them, though. Of the places I've visited, my favorites: San Antonio, Budapest, and Frankfurt.

Sorry I didn't get by here yesterday, but I'll definitely be back.

  19. 13! 13! 13! Your mind works like a finely tuned guitar I am so glad you got inspired again! A great mind is a terrible thing to waste. I loved Heidelberg, Germany;
Valencia, Spain only because the men there really like full figured women. and Munich because when I was a teen there was a McDonalds there and of course when I was a teen their quality was alot better.

  21. I love New York, but I can only be there for a few days, it is too exhausting for me. Chicago is a favorite city for me also. The people make it a special place.

    The pictures was beautiful.

You are a lucky man, living in Myrtle Beach.

  23. I really don't like cities period I'm afraid. I'm from a very small town, and I love it.

All that to say, I loved visiting D.C. and hope to someday see several of the other cities you listed.

  24. LOVE that picture of NYC! Just gorgeous :-)

  25. I'm a little jealous of all the travel. I've lived in Miami and I can't concur...but that's because I love my little town in NC. I've been to Myrtle Beach a couple of times...most recently on a golf trip. It is pretty...but it seems like everyone from here who goes there is all about partying and clubbing. I'm sure there's much more to it than that.
