My grandson Carson - Carrying the Wainright Mantle - 4/13/09

The vast majority of people that share my family name spell it Wainwright. My clan does not include the second ”W". I have been told by a reliable source that the second "W" indicates wholesale inbreeding. I get annoyed when people insert it automatically. Even when I spell it out carefully to them, they throw in that infernal “W’. My name has been misspelled so often that I am certain I have an AKA on file with the authorities. I recently noticed that my mother’s name is spelled wrong on her death certificate. You would have thought they could have taken the time to get that right.
I tell you that to tell you this. There is only one person charged with continuing my particular Wainright family line. I have a half-brother, Chris Wainright, who has only daughters. My oldest son, Rick, has only daughters. My other son, Josh, has no children, though he desperately wanted kids. But the more he and his wife, Tia, are subjected to children of friends and family, the less desperate they are to procreate. That leaves my grandson Carson, the son of my daughter Carly, with the awesome responsibility of insuring a Wainright branch on our family tree. I remain optimistic. What do you think? Should I bring my swimmers out of retirement?

Well, I'd say you family is whole right now and a wonderful legacy...the Wainright name/blood will always be here with the girls too. A lot of them carry the name after marriage these days, which is a good thing. It's the bloodline tho that counts. If you want my opinion.

Happy Tuesday....my Heads or Tails is posted now.

That hyphenated last name thing makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Your grandson looks like quite the character. He's a great model for photos ;-)

I'm not trying to start something here, but I think Anni was just trying to point out another possibility for you to see. Regardless of how you feel about hyphenated last names, she's right that the blood will still be in the females. As I said, I'm not trying to start something, but your reaction to Anni kind of hit me the wrong way... I don't think that's what you intended to do at all though (at least I hope not).

I love all the pictures! I say let your swimmers retire..

I wasn't sure if this was your HoT post cuz it wasn't labeled as such and there were no tags at the bottom. ;)

You have not started anything. There is no reference in my posting about blood, only name. I actually care very little about blood. An adopted child carrying my name is every bit as cherished as those that carry the tainted blood of my family. I believe that any woman with a hyphenated last name is high maintenance. You might want to revisit the title of my blog.

Haha! He is quite the ball of fire, even in his photos. Haha. These are true to his personality. Maris and Sophie may have a boy in the manner I did (although we wouldn't wish for it) and keep the Wainright name going but Carson is currently the only predictable one to continue the name. Love ya. Carly

Since there is no meaning for the spelling Wainright, only Wainwright, do you ever think that someone never learned the correct spelling of the last name and it stuck as the wrong spelling Wainright? Love ya Carly

Are you related to Loudon Wainwright III? (although he comes from the inbred Wainwrights)

Regina:

It is rumored that we are cousins but it would be very distant. I thinks some Wainrights just gave up and accepted the second "W". I refuse to.

I am very proud of my southern white trash roots.

How funny! Somewhere, there's a picture of Carly, about the same age, in a Parmalat box! The picture of Carson in the box is history repeating itself!

he's a might ful of great expressions. I get a bunch of them at my workplace and I must say, I look forward to have my own kids someday.

Rick, really cute pics, especially the one with the shark and the shorts and the thing...listen, if your daughter gets hitched again, would you expect Carson to continue to carry your namesake or adopt the name of his stepdad? What if his stepdad WANTED him to accept the new name? See, I pretty much have the same problem. I'm the last of my kind. No kids. The only person who'll carry along my Father's lineage is my blood nephew, Jonathan, only he has two daughters and no desire to re-enlist. Unless he has another child, a son, my Fathers's name dies. I have a half brother, my father's by a previous and he has a son but his son's blood is not my blood. I guess at least the name will remain, IF Keith has a son. He only has a daughter at present. Don't you long for the days when people got married and stayed married for life and had a house full of kids? Yep, I really do.
