55 Flash Fiction Friday - Crime Scene - 1/23/09

If you haven't tried this, I highly recommend it. You write a story using only 55 words and link it to G-Man at 55 Flash Fiction Friday. It is a challenge to tell a story that is limited to 55 words. Here is mine for this week.

He found a battered body on the elevator. He bent to check. The memories of many CSI episodes screamed in his brain, “STOP!” He couldn’t leave his DNA or prints at the crime scene. He couldn’t call 911, he had no alibi. He sent the body up, wiped the call button clean, and went home.

The maintenace supervisor observed him leave. He got a good look at him. Found out about the body when the elevator stopped at the next floor. The police were called. He was arrested, tried, convicted, and died by lethal injection. HA! Justice is served.

Go Figure:

Nope, he was pardoned by Obama. He got himself a big-city personal injury lawyer and they sued the maker of the elevator, the maintenance supervisor, and the dead man.

Clever and sadly a testimony to our times. Being a caring citizen can lead to conviction, so fear leads to being undreasonable. It is kind of like spanking your own child. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Could be an episde, do I smell a script in your future. co

I would have done exactly what he did which is a bad thing, but you know the police always suspect the person who finds the body.

Great 55!

That was really good, I did not want it to end, but I see a couple of your friends filled in the blanks at the end! LOL! Why does watching TV get such a bad rap anymore?

But he forgot about all the surveillance cameras all around and in the elevator.
Nice 55.

Our elevators have no cameras. No one has mentioned how nice he was to send the stiff up instead of down. Very symbolic.

Jaded cynicism. I recognize that. When he got home, he either crushed a bottle of Jack to dull his conscience - or he made an anonymous call from a payphone to the cops - or both and in that order! Ha!

Goody.
