Three Word Wednesday - 55 Flash Fiction Friday - Caress, Jagged, Ruthless - 1/28/09

The prompts for Three Word Wednesday (caress, jagged, ruthless) conjured up a woman that every man has known. My initial jottings formed an exact 55 word image. That never happens. It usually takes a lot of wordsmithing. I left my first draft alone. I hope you enjoy it.

Her caress was both velvet and the jagged cut of a serrated blade.
A wound that would never heal.
Her love was equally ruthless and tender.
He now understood the close proximity of pleasure to pain.
He knew she was a succubus, but his soul ached for the sweet danger she brought into his life.

I do know this woman. So, I have to ask, how did you like the being limited to 55 words? I do the Fiction in 58 thing, my own creation, and I find that it helps me draw out detail in the least amount of words. It also helps in my real gig, as a journalist, to write tight.

The 55 Flash Fiction is my favorite link. It challenges me because I tend to be a bit verbose. Also, the host, G-Man, always visits and gives supporting comments as to your submission. I highly recommend it. I enjoy combining it with the Three Word Wednesday as it gives me a jumping off point. Plus, I am lazy.

You know a woman like this, or is this fiction?

I love trying to tell a story in 55words. And as you know it is harder than you think it will be.

Loved your post!

I think this is a very interesting look inside the mind of a man. Actually it answers a question I have often wondered about. Why do men love b*@#^$s? Perhaps it is because we, as the public at large, don't see the tendar side readily and really wonder why a man would put up with "that woman". I have seen it over and over again. Perhaps it's time to hone my serrated side...mayhaps I would find some happiness...co

There are men who are like this, too, sweetly and innocently cruel, like a child. You definitely stirred some memories!

Yes, there are both males and females like this...and it is fascinating to see how easily they can attract willing 'victims'...lol. This was an excellent read!

Loved this!
I'm gonna try the 55 words again this week. I agree w/ Thom, it helps draw out detail in just a few words!

This is nicely complete. It shows both sides of a single coin, but you also see the entire coin in the process.

Actually, I'm wrong. Doesn't sound like her at all.

But 2 outta 3 ain't bad.

Spot on, MRB!

I can't drive 55; don't think I can write a story that lean either, but I might try.
