Three Word Wednesday - 55 Flash Fiction Friday - Illicit, Nerve, Crumple - 2/4/09

Once again, I have combined the Three Word Wednesday prompts with the constraints of 55 words presented by G-Man at 55 Flash Fiction Friday.
These words immediately conjured up this image.

The illicit affair was against his values.
But he could not resist her.
He planned to end it tonight, but had lost his nerve.
He picked her up at the usual location.
Suddenly, his car was crumpled by an unseen vehicle.
As he lost consciousness, he saw the driver smile.
Or was it a grimace?

Great post. It gives me several ways to think about how the affair ended, but I will never really know for sure.

I think it was a smile. Good short.

Me too Tumblewords. It was her other lover....the one that mattered. Perhaps she lost them both?

Mr. Ramblings, pehaps a smidge more? co

Unfortunately, 55 words does not allow me to spoon feed the entire story. Was the driver her husband? His wife?, Hired? Another lover? A religious zealot? A really bad driver? Is he dead? Is she dead? Did the airbag deploy? Were they wearing their seat belts? Was it a Garp situation? I hope I left it thought-provoking.

it was thought provoking, but I assumed it was satan, coming to get the immoral lovers.
good job!

Wicked! I'm a big fan of "the dark side" (if you've not noticed) and this is one terrific piece.

Absolutely terrifying picture at the end. Hope my subconcious doesn't bring that image back in the night. Great story though. Love ya, Carly

It's interesting to read each person's interpretation...I thought the other car was 'karma'. It was very thought provoking and definitely left me wondering!

Fledgling:

That is an interesting and totally plausible interpretation. I, too, am enjoying peoples takes. Although I don't think the Devil would want to curtail such sinful activity.

Well...sometimes it is never too late & sometime it is just the opposite...

That could have been her husband or his wife or so many other people imagined!

Ps. Your Granddaughter is so cute. Congratulations!

Terrific. Strong and captivating.
(here via Sun. Scribs) I haven't tried FF or 55, but I'm seeing it more and more around the net and my curiosity means I'll have to give it a whorl soon. (Will be tough for me who is long-winded, even in comments. :D)

so we may never know who the driver was, but I like not knowing. It adds to the twist.

OK, next week's 55 may include the conclusion to this story. I had one in mind and I guess I owe it to those that take the time to read my stuff.
