Sunday Scribblings - "Scandalous" - 11/2/08

This week’s Sunday Scribblings prompt is scandalous. This was a thought-provoking word and many things come to mind. I suppose that is because we live in a society where the media seeks out scandals and forces them on us as news. No one of any notoriety is allowed any privacy. It makes me thankful that I am not famous. Nobody cares about my little life. Well, that is not the topic that I am writing about.

Today is the day for much of America to set their clocks back an hour. This is called standard time and when we set the clocks forward in March it is called daylight savings time. I call it a pain in the ass. Though there are lame reasons for this ridiculous maneuver, it is just another scandalous way for the government to fuck with our lives. Like forcing us all to have digital television, fasten our seat belts, and pay taxes.

Arizona and Hawaii don’t participate in daylight savings time and several other states are voting to opt out. I play the game somewhat. My computer and cell phone automatically change. I don’t know how to change the time in either of my automobiles, so I will just wait for March to come around. I believe that the owners of most cars I have ridden in use the same method for the same reason. My alarm clock is not important to me as I am retired and don’t really care what time it is. I have learned to mentally compensate for which of my clocks are off an hour.

I have never benefitted from the time change. It generally just pisses me off. Losing an hour of sleep one day and gaining it back six months later does me no good at all. When I was growing up in northern Idaho, during the winter I went to school in the dark and came home in the dark. What did I care what time it was? Once I was invited to an Easter brunch and arrived just as they were divvying up the check. Oops.

But I am so grateful that I am not the owner of a clock store. I am much too anal not to have them all synchronized. I don’t mind compensating for an hour but would go spare with cuckoos appearing randomly, every few minutes.

I am equally glad I am not this guy.

Very funny post...Never heard a person get in such a tizzy about the time change....but you have a good point! It's an annoying task to be sure. When I finally figure out the car clock it changes again! Fun post thanks...love the photos too!

LOL - I too revolt and fail to change all of my clocks. I guess it is the rebel without a cause in me.

Ditto on letting the clocks go! I don't change the car, and have a wall clock behind my computer desk that is just too much trouble.

I change my alarm clock and one wall clock in the bedroom. Several change by themselves. I didn't even realize the time change was last night until my clocks got all goofy this morning.

Well said. I refused to change my clocks - and I was early for work!

Loved your post! I have read the reasons for changing the time back and forth, but I really think it would be easier if we just left it one way or the other. I prefer daylight savings time once I have gotten my body adjusted, just because I hate for it to be dark when I get off work.

Your music is great. Reading your posts most always puts a smile on my face. :)

I love the extra daylight hours, but it puts the kids right out of routine
and gives them power to avoid bed time, "see mum, it's still light out there. No one goes to bed when it's light"! :)

Oh Lord, I hate the time changes too. But, unlike you Mr. Ramblings, I am compelled to pull out the vehicle manual twice a year to adjust the clock. Everyhting must be changed that has a clock...all the while as I curse and sneer and utter obsenities. It is by far the most ridiculous thing ever imposed on us. I take more creedence in what Groundhogs Day can do for me!!! I may just move to Arizona, hear tell they have year round school too.........and no winter. Why was it that I am still in Wyoming????? co
